Why is aerobic fitness important?


Do not get me wrong, you can lose weight from just weight training. But, this is not the right way to go about a weight loss regimen… For multiple reasons!!!


Naturally, aerobic fitness (cardio) is a thermogenic exercise, which will inherently increase caloric expenditure. This is extremely important when losing fat, especially when trying to stay in a caloric deficit.


EPOC - excess post-exercise oxygen, which is considered the “afterburn effect”. Your body will continue to burn calories prior to returning to its resting state. 


Increased metabolic rate, which can be more efficient when burning calories. Even at rest!!


Properly programmed aerobic/cardiovascular training promotes fat oxidation. Using fat as a fuel source, which will lead to a reduction in your Body Fat % . Better weight management!


 Cardiovascular health in general. Improve circulation & heart function. This can lead to a reduction in risk of chronic disease. 


Release of beta-endorphins, referred to as “runner’s high”. They help reduce pain and promote a feeling of euphoria. 


Release of Dynorphins, which have a complex role in your mood regulation.


Release of Enkephalins, which contribute to mood enhancement. They also aid in pain relief. 


Muscle preservation & improved body composition. Resistance training will preserve/build lean mass, and when properly paired with aerobic fitness, it will aid in targeted fat loss.


Promote healthy hormonal balance, due to BOTH types of training influencing insulin & cortisol levels. This can be huge for your metabolism and fat storages, helping mitigate higher cortisol levels which lead to fat increases.


Improve adherence to a fitness routine, to continue an engaging long-term weight loss.
